New EVs for our Clean & Green Team

We've added to the fleet of fully electric vehicles used by our Clean & Green Team.

The three EVs in the photo below are used by our public convenience colleagues, with three more due for delivery in the next few weeks - these to be added to the street cleansing fleet.

The new arrivals will take the total Clean & Green fleet to seven fully electric vans and two hybrid (petrol & electric) vans, contributing to the District Council's ongoing commitment to a greener future.

We have six 7kW EV Chargers at our Northwood Depot for Clean & Green fleet use. The installation was funded through the Public Sector Charging Network (PSCN) project, administered by Nottingham City Council (NCC), as part of the D2N2 partnership.

The PSCN project has provided public sector organisations (including Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service) with EV charge point infrastructure to support the uptake of EVs as part of their fleet and enable them to fulfil their operational responsibilities while addressing logistical and technical issues associated with EV charging for fleet users and employees frequently on the move.

Electrifying our vehicle fleet up to LGV size aligns with the aims of the District Council's Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan.

It also accords with the 'Environment' objective in our Corporate Plan 2024-2028 to “continue to implement plans to meet the existing target for the District Council to be net zero in terms of its own emissions by 2030”.

Benefits include:

  • Reducing emissions from the Council fleet
  • Reducing associated NOx, particulates and other pollutants produced by diesel or petrol vehicles improving air quality
  • Reducing the lifetime cost of the fleet vehicles
  • Providing a safer, more comfortable, quieter working environment for the vehicle operatives who may be exposed to exhaust emissions and noise from the current diesel vehicles
  • Leading by example in terms of early adoption of fleet EVs
