A civic role, the Civic Chair of the Derbyshire Dales is elected at the annual meeting of the council and serves for a civic year.
The Civic Chair wears a ceremonial chain of office at official engagements and generally represents the District Council at more than 50 functions throughout the year, organising special fund-raising events for nominated charities.
The role of Civic Chair is different from that of Chair of the District Council, which is a more strategic leadership role.
Elected as 2025/26 Civic Chair of the Derbyshire Dales was Councillor David Chapman (pictured, left) following on from Councillor Peter Slack (right), whose civic year ended at the District Council's annual meeting on 29 May 2025.
Councillor Joanne Linthwaite was appointed Civic Vice-Chair of the District for 2025/26.
