What is Pickleball?
It is a mix of tennis, badminton and table tennis, played with a plastic ball with holes in and a solid paddle type racket. It is played both indoor and outdoors on both tennis and badminton courts which can be adapted for use. We have had a full size court marked out inside at the ABC centre in Bakewell specifically for Pickleball.
Play Pickleball
Pickleball sessions are held at the Bakewell Agriculture and Business Centre (ABC) in Bakewell. We have a maximum of 6 players per session (& 1 court) and each session costs £4. Sessions are 55 minutes long. Booking is essential - Contact Alan McGill -
Weekly sessions for experienced players (Bakewell members only): No sessions on 27th May and 26th August due to bank holiday markets
- Tuesday 12.30pm - 1.25pm
- Tuesday 1.30pm - 2.25pm
- Tuesday 2.45pm - 3.40pm
Pickleball for Beginner Course(s): This is a 4 week course for complete beginners, with the aim to introduce them to the basic rules and how to play pickleball. Cost £24 for 4 sessions
Next Course: 4 week course is on the following dates:
- Tuesday 9th Sept 3.45pm
- Wednesday 10th Sept 1pm
- Tuesday 23rd Sept 3.45pm
- Tuesday 30th Sept 3.45pm
£24 for 4 week course (2 places available through Clubspark). (Please note the change of day on one of the dates due to coach availability)

NEW Court Hire at Bakewell ABC!
The court is available for hire on Wednesdays 9am to 3.55pm. Hire rate is £10per hour and includes 4 paddles and a ball, plus parking passes.
Pickleball SAVER RATE £10 per hour from 14th May to 31st March 2026!! Please note we have now extended our summer save to 31st March 2026!
Booking is via the LTA using Clubspark. We have added this to our Bakewell Recreation Ground Tennis Courts. It will still say the recreation ground address but all Pickleball is at the Agricultural Business Centre (ABC).
