The District Council works closely with other agencies and organisations to ensure water within the area is safe.

UK Health Security Agency
The Environmental Health service works with the UKHSA for the investigations of any infectious diseases, including water related infectious diseases. If you feel that you have become infected by water pollution, then please seek medical advice in the first instance. If a test identifies a water related infection, your hospital or GP will notify Environmental Health. If you have spoken to your GP or medical provider and require further advice on infectious diseases, you can contact the Environmental Health service for further information.
The Environment Agency
The EA are generally responsible for water pollution of rivers and streams around the area, and if you’re concerned about water pollution within a river or stream the EA should be contacted in the first instance. You can contact the EA to report the following:
- collapsed or badly damaged river banks
- damage or danger to the natural environment
- dead fish or fish gasping for air
- flooding from main rivers or the sea
- people taking water illegally from rivers, streams, canals or underground sources such as wells
- incidents at Environment Agency-regulated waste sites
- main rivers blocked by a vehicle or fallen tree causing risk of flooding
- poaching or illegal fishing
- pollution to water or land
- unusual changes in river flow.
The EA operate a 24 hour service on 0800 807060 for reporting incidents. Recent results of river water testing can be obtained here.
Severn Trent Water
Severn Trent Water is responsible for providing clean drinking water and the removal of waste water. If you’re concerned about drinking water from your mains tap, please contact Severn Trent Water in the first instance. If you are still concerned about your drinking water on the mains system after escalating your concerns with Severn Trent Water please contact Environmental Health for further investigations. Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI)
The Environmental Health service works closely with the DWI, and following the national guidance and legal requirements for private drinking water supplies. - Sewage and Drainage concerns not affecting rivers and streams is still a concern for the Environmental Health service especially leaking drainage pipes and septic tanks etc. The service would work with the duty holders to ensure suitable repairs are undertaken, this maybe a private household or Severn Trent Water. If your concern is relating to leaking mains drainage you should contact Severn Trent Water in the first instance, and make contact with the Environmental Health service if the situation is not resolved, or if your concern relates to a septic tank. - Swimming Pool Water and Hot Tubs. If you’re concerned about the water quality and risk of infection from a swimming pool or hot tub in a non-domestic setting, please raise an enquiry with the Environmental Health Service below.
Other agencies with responsibility for water are DEFRA (Department for Environment and Rural Affairs) OFWAT and Consumer Council for Water CCW The CCW can help consumers with concerns about Severn Trent Water, especially for outstanding repairs to pipework affecting a domestic property.
