With work well under way to deliver the two projects within the Ashbourne Reborn programme, additional drop-ins have been announced for members of the public and local businesses to ask questions and raise issues about the delivery of the programme.

Representatives of Ashbourne Reborn will share information at drop-ins on Monday 9 June (4:30pm-7pm) and Wednesday 18 June (4:30pm-7pm) at Ashbourne’s Elim Church, Waterside Business Park, DE6 1DG.

After the sessions, information will be shared on the Ashbourne Reborn website and newsletters so that residents and businesses in Ashbourne can follow progress over the final months of the programme.

The sessions are open to all and will provide more information about future plans for Ashbourne, with the opportunity to ask questions about the design, location and timing of the works, and raise any issues about the delivery of the two main projects:

Highways and Public Realm, led by Derbyshire County Council

The first of two main projects is being delivered by the County Council through its contractor Galliford try. The project will transform a series of public spaces including the Market Place, Victoria Square, Millennium Square and Shrovetide Walk. Changes to the highways and public spaces will celebrate the town’s heritage while enabling a wide variety of future events to bring new life to the centre of town. Works to the road network on Dig Street, St John Street, Church Street, Station Road and Buxton Road will help transform the pedestrian experience in Ashbourne, making people feel safer and reducing the dominance of traffic and its impact on the town.

The drop-ins at Elim Church are in addition to a weekly drop-in held by the contractor’s public liaison officer from 12-3pm at Ashbourne Business Centre, Dig Street, DE6 1GF. For anyone unable to make it to the drop-ins, the PLO also arranges to visit business premises at a time that is convenient to them.

The Link Centre community hub, led by Ashbourne Methodist Church

The second project, The Link Centre community hub is being delivered by Ashbourne Methodist Church will provide a range of new services to residents, businesses and visitors across Ashbourne. The project will transform the existing church buildings on the corner of Church Street and Station Road, where a new foyer will link three current buildings into one accessible suite with event space for performing arts, new flexible workspace for community and business use and quality, affordable visitor accommodation. The church, which is a registered charity, has committed to providing significant match funding towards the redevelopment.

The £15.9m Ashbourne Reborn programme aims to bring back vibrancy, vitality and economic prosperity to the town centre, with £13.4m UK government funding and the rest raised locally by project partners. The overall programme is led by Derbyshire Dales District Council working with Derbyshire County Council and Ashbourne Methodist Church as key delivery partners, in collaboration with Ashbourne Town Team, Ashbourne Town Council and AshCom who brought forward project ideas, identified opportunities and raised match funding for the bid.
